Injured Baby Squirrel?

Our neighbor'sdog got ahold of a baby squirrel and terrorized/hurt it and for awhile wouldn't let the owner's get the squirrel from it. When they got it they sent it over to us, because we have a habit fo trying to help animals. It's alive, but not moving much. It doesn't appear to be injured, and no one has actually picked it up. We will not send it to a SPCA, they will kill it. We called vets we knew before for another animal, they said they won't touch a wild animal. We don't know any places that take wild animals and we can't put it outside, way to many cats. So.. what do we do for it? Serious answers only, pleaseInjured Baby Squirrel?
look in the phonebook under something that has to do with animals. soemeone will have to wanna take care of the poor thing =/ good luck. i hope everything turns out okayInjured Baby Squirrel?
I would not call that the best answer, realy, Doodlest was the most help to us. Tumbles, as we have decided to call her, is doing wonderful. We don't feed her kitten milk, we feed her cow's milk w/ sugar in it, heated.

I don't know if you still have the baby squirrel which I hope it lived but you could take it to a exoctic hospital that works on ferritts, birds, reptils etc. We have one in our city that does it and I have raised 4 baby squirrels from birth at different times so death is not always the answer

Keep him warm, in a shoebox or something, IDK..I guess the vet is afraid of contracting rabies or something, hope you wear gloves..
i have had wild baby squirrels before.

they didnt last long and werent even injured.

all i could tell you is clean the cuts

and feed it, they eat all sorts of things.

i fed most of mine peeled grapes and nuts

oh and a good place for it to rest
If you truly want to help this animal, you will look up a wildlife rehabilitation clinic near you and take it there immediately. There is no way you are prepared/can take care of a squirrel and expect it to live very long or even to survive on its own. It is a wild animal and should be treated as such. Your vets have the right idea.
The baby squirrel has internal injuries. Bring it to the SPCA so that they can put it out of its misery. It can't survive without care and that care is 24 hours. Unless you are willing to put in that time (including taking time off of work), you are just causing it more suffering especially since nobody wants to touch it.

If you were going to make the effort, you need to use kitten milk (use the expensive canned stuff, not the powder-throw out what you don't use after 3 days) and an eye dropper. You need to warm the baby in your hands for about 10 minutes and then painstakingly feed it at least every 3 hours round the clock for about 2 weeks. You need to gently press on it's tummy towards the anus in order to encourage it to defecate. You need to find a way to keep the baby warm (I had a heated aquarium that I laid the shoebox on top of), but not directly on any heating pad (too hot). The baby won't start eating anything but milk until about 5-6 weeks old and then you have to provide a varied diet (walnuts, pecans, raisins, carrots). Once an adult, you need to find a wildlife relocation place too. I already knew where there was a wild bird relocation place, and they were able to transfer our 'baby' there to be reintroduced to other squirrels. We would have done it ourselves, but the area that the baby came from had repeated fires and red squirrels aren't that common in my area. The relocation place said that we had one of the healthiest squirrels they had ever seen. My original information was based on a book that we got from the library written by a veterinarian.

Baby squirrels love to play, but their little nails will put all kinds of scratches on you and pulls in your clothing.
well if it was attacked by a dog i would just kill it case as u have heard its going to die if u touch it the parents wont and if u put it outside cats will kill it so i would just turn it into SPCA
Yes it is an infant. It could have internal injuries.. or it could be just fine.. the squeeling noises are ... '; your not my mommie'; '; and im scared of you';

for now like.. ASAP... warm a cup of sugar water... about a cup of water and a tablespoon of sugar.. use a syringe or eyeydropper.. and feed slowly to the baby.. u can dip the end of the dropper in regular pancake syrup... he will like the taste and im sure hes in shock.. so it helps w/ the shock also.

keep him somewhere warm... i know he has fur.. but a single, stressed out baby CANNOT regulate their own body temp.. get a heating pad and put on low underneath half of the box or whatever u are keeping him in.

a squirrel that young will not eat from a bowl.. he will not eat rodent chow or whatever u said u had...

next you need to do a google search for a ';wildlife rehabilitator';.. in whatever state u are in.. Had you stated that .. I could have found one for you.

If you still cant find one.. then u will need to go the vet or pet shop and buy some ESBILAC puppy replacer.. its a powder.. u mix one part powder to 2 parts warm water.. u can also add a little gerber rice cereal... to thicken it a little as long as the baby is not dehydrated.. u can tell by pulling up his skin between the shoulder blades.. if the skin stays up.. he is dehydrated.. and needs more sugare water.. if the skin goes down fast.. u can start the esbilac.

only after he has calmed down.. and started eating good..about every 4 hours.. then u can introduce pecans ..NO SHELL.. he cant crack them open for another 2 months.

at first he wont eat them.. he will just shred them into a billion pieces..

you can email me if u need help...

squirrels are very easy to save..

but they are even easier to kill if you dont pay attention.

and DO NOT feed it every 3 hours around the clock unless you want to kill it.

and DO NOT press on its tummy to make it use the bathroom..NOW.... if this is a newborn .. or eyes still closed... THEN..... you would stimulate the baby by rubbing its privates w/ a damp warm cloth to make it pee/poo... you mentioned its eyes are open so therefore its perfectly capable of using the bathroom on its own.. BUT.. what u can do is go ahead and get a warm cloth... stimulate him/her and check the color of the urine. it should be clear... to even lemon juice color...

if its dark urine.. that means dehydration.. and u def. need the sugar water... or if u get no urine at all... u need the sugar water first.

and squirrels do not transmit rabies. :)

OKAY.. sry this is soo long.. I just read the last part of ur post.. omg! your joking right!

the baby is what... 3-6 inches long! You really think he is just gonna get up and run off???? ITS A BABY!!!!!!!

and the baby is crying! ( cold, hungry, i miss my mom)

dont worry.. you will do for mom.. but get that baby away from the freakin window! get the hay off of him! and get him in a small box! with cozy warm blankets/towels/T-shirt/sweatshirt.. anything but HAY!..... get that heat pad under half his box...

what state are u in???
Try to make it as comfortable as possible until it passes away.

It probably doesn't have much of a chance.

I used to try that too.

Growing up in the country, my brother or dad nicked a baby rabbit or two more than once with the lawnmower. I tried at least 3 times, and never had any success saving their lives :-(
Unfortunately it probably will die. Put in in a box with a lid on it with breathing holes so that it can stay warm and be in peace if it in fact does die. Sad, but it happens all the time around here.
