I started raising a wild baby squirrel. Help me.?

I found a baby squirrel under a tree. There was a whole litter abandoned but he was the only one alive. I decieded to raise him but hes wild. He may become tame b/c hes just born and im raising him.

I need help b/c i never had this animal before. I bought him smashed peacons to eat and he loves it. Im also making him drink water b/c regular milk is to strong for baby animals and no place sells breastmilk.

Do you have any ideas?I started raising a wild baby squirrel. Help me.?
If he has a fur coat and is excepting nuts I wouldn't worry too much about formula.

You can use kitten formula- they sell it at any pet store- to supplement his diet if he doesn't seem to be gaining weight.

We had an grey squirrel growing up. His name was squeaker- which probably seems like an obvious name now that you have spent time with a baby.

We had brought him outside on a regular basis- we used a small animal harness when he was really young. But he never really considered running away. he learned how to climb trees and use his tail properly.

Squeaker lived in a ferret cage until he was an adult and the warmer spring weather came. Then we created a nesting box with a doggy door on it. We put it in his cage and he grew accustomed to using it. Then we moved it outside on a nice day and put him out there.

He would play with the other squirrels and bury nuts in the yard. He never left. He even had a little red sweater he would wear when it got cold. So you could watch a little squirrel in the backyard with a little sweater on- it was cute.

Until he died he was tame- never bit anyone and would follow us around and climb up our pant legs.

I think allowing them to live outside is the best for them once they are adults. Don't worry he will always come to your window for treats and look for you when your car pulls in.I started raising a wild baby squirrel. Help me.?

Yes. Turn it over to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. You violated the law when you picked it up - it is a game animal and you aren't permitted to touch it. Even if you think it was abandoned, you had no business picking it up.

You also don't realize that wild creatures such as that one have parasites that can infest you and can carry dreadful diseases such as the pneumonic plague that you can catch from those parasites. Worse, so can any very young children you might come in contact with. Pneumonic plague - a form of bubonic plague, once called the ';Black Death'; can kill a person in less than 24 hours, and an infant in less than 12.

Now: call the sheriff and find out where to hand that creature over, and do it pronto!
You might want to talk to an associate at like pet smart you might be able to use kitten milk for the baby squirrel. Good luck and hope he lives.
Please do not listen to people who tell you they have raised baby squirrels that they took from the wild. It is illegal.

It is also dangerous for you and the squirrel. Ask your parents what would happen if the squirrel bit a visitor in your home, and that visitor sued your family. Your homeowners insurance would not cover it, because it is a wild animal. Also, the health department would take the squirrel and destroy it to have it tested for rabies.

So please do the right thing, and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. You can find one here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.鈥?/a>

These people have the specialized training to care for sick, injured and orphaned wild animals. They also have the state and federal licenses that allow them to keep the animal just until it is healthy enough to be released back into the wild where it belongs. Without those permits, it is illegal to keep any native wild animals.
ive heard you can use the kitten milk replacement they sell it at pet stores, its best to go to a vet and ask because he needs his nutrients

squirels like persimins (sp?) its a type of fruit cut it up as a treat.

they do become wild when they grow up, if you dont interact with them often.
