HELP! We found a baby squirrel !!?

Actually the squirrel found my husband! He was out working in the garden and this little furry critter walked all the way from the tree in the front yard to the garden about 50ft away. I put him back in his tree and he came right back to us. He ate some cat food mush last night and he's still alive and kickin this morning. The HELP is what should I feed the little guy so he can be released into our yard in a few weeks??HELP! We found a baby squirrel !!?
He's out and about he is old enough to survive. If you are really worried toss peanuts in the shell in your yard for him. Do not leave them in one place continue to make himlook. As a treat throw some cereal out there. Ive weined them with peanut butter dog biscuits.HELP! We found a baby squirrel !!?
I have been in touch with rehab folks and they say not to release him until he can open hard shell nuts on his own. Other wise he may not survive. He is very active and acting more and more squirrelly every day.

i would suggest keeping food outside in your yard and let him come and go as he please. I am sure he has lost his momma and is learning to fend for himself.
Contact a DNR
( I know Ive already contacted you regarding the squirrel)

the squirrel is doing great... thank god she didnt take other advice! I would like to point out that squirrels DO NOT transmit rabies.. they can however have rabies.. ( if they survive the attack) which usually is not the outcome.. squirrels have a 1/2 gap between the front teeth and the back molars which make it impossible to transmit rabies.. since saliva is how it is transmitted.. (not through a scratch!)

ever had a squirrel spit on you??? I dont think so.

baby squirrels must keep a normal body temp.. a heat source is required... baby squirrels must be fed a proper formula.. cows milk will kill them. goats milk will kill them.. and human formula will kill them. baby squirrels that do not have their eyes open must be stimulated to urinate.. they cannot do it on their own.

so please... before you go giving advice.. please make sure you know what you are talking about... bad advice.. leaves to a dead squirrel.

thank you again for saving the little fella.. he sure is a cutie pie!!!! your doing an excellent job.. and just let me know if you have any questions. ;)
keep him sounds like he will be a neat pet,i aways wanted one.
CALL LOCAL ANIMAL CONTROL. Squirrels, especially

babies, are usually very afraid of humans and will not venture near, even when food is there.

That is a sign of a very sick animal. Rabies is very common in squirrels.

If the squirrel bites or scratches you, you could get the disease and die.
Ideally, the squirrel needs to go to a wildlife rehabilitator.

You could ask for assistance by contacting an animal shelter or animal control for your county or city.

Big city animal controls may not be helpful, but if you are in a rural or suburban county, they probably will.

You can't adequately take care of the squirrel without expert advice.

It will die if you just set it outside, but you also don't know the way to care for it.

An animal shelter (private or public for that matter) might help you or take the squirrel.

Don't just set it outside.
STOP feeding him, keep trying to put him back in the tree. Unless you know for a fact that the mother is dead. If you must keep it, call the local wildlife rescue. They will tell you exactly what to feed him and how to care for him.
If he's a baby, then you need to first make sure the mom is alive and not injured. If she is, keep the baby. Feed it frozen pecans, birdseed, and an eye dropper of esbalic every 4-5 hours. If it is that friendly and not afraid of humans, take it to a rehab center! It probably needs special care so it will grow up and learn to not keep coming back to people's houses! Remember-keeping any type of wild animal is illegal!
