I assist with squirrel rehab in my area... most shelters and vets are unable to take in squirrels. You will need to find a wildlife rehabilitator in your area... you should be able to locate someone through one of these links.

wtf?
I found a baby squirrel before, and called the local zoo. They found someone who would rehabilitate to release. They are suppose to have great release potential.
leave it for its mother to take care of it
You should contact animal control and see if they can pick it up or if they have a number to a wildlife rehabber. Yes, squirrels are considered vermin but why not help it if the resources are available?
That is so sweet! - I can't really help, but that really is sweet!
The Little Red Schoolhouse might know what to do. It's either in Orland Park or near there. If that's too far, at least they would know who to refer you to. I'm sorry but you should just leave it be, the animal world is a cruel place and these things happen.
If it is unijured but not eating and not scared of people it is probably sick. Since squirrels are considered vermin animals the shelter will most lilkey not take it in. A wildlife preserve might take it though.
Call the vets in town, many of their assistants and techs do squirrel rehab or know of licensed rehabbers.
Sorry Im in CA.

Why don't you look on Petfinder.com for shelters in your area. You can call the different places too see what they suggest.
