pleasssse help.My miniature dachshund ate a dead baby squirrel will she be OK?
She will probably be okay. Look out for worms or other parasites that may have been in the squirrel. Make sure that you take in a stool sample on your next routine vet visit. Keep an eye on her in case she's showing any problems, but I wouldn't expect any.

Unfortunately one or other of my terriers are catching and eating small animals and birds pretty often. Gross as it is, the younger the thing eaten, the less chance of problems. My miniature dachshund ate a dead baby squirrel will she be OK?
It has nothing to do with mutt vs. purebred. Your dog will likely be fine (mine has eaten a dead bird), but it could cause intestinal blockage (make sure she's not trying to throw up and that she's pooping regularly). If the squirrel was poisened it would be a worse case, but since it was a baby it probably died of something else.
You need to make your dog vomit. Take 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide for every 10lbs your dog weighs. If your dog doesn't do it the first time, wait 10 minutes and try again.

If by the second time your dog vomits, you need to take it to a vet and have them make it vomit.

Dead animals carry bacteria that can be harmful to your pet. The best thing you can do, is make your dog vomit up the body.

Note: Squirrels don't carry rabies.
unless the squirrel had some kind of desease (you might want to take her to the vet just in case you see unsual behavior: not eating, not playing, vomiting) I don't see why she wouldn't be ok...dachshunds were originally bred in Germany to hunt small rodents, that's their instinct and they usually don't have the opportunity to do it now because they're domesticated and mostly live indoors but your doxie will be ok, she's just showing some of her nature...

:)
To the first two posters...,WHAT???

Anyway she'll be fine. My yard kitties eat them all the time. Just don't let her lick you in the face for a while. She a dachshund just doing her job.

Oh my goodness, don't make her throw it up!
';Experts'; make me ill. The dog will be fine, it obviously didn't choke on that poor baby. That baby didn't die of a disease, something likely happened to mama and the baby was starving. No need for alarms or panic.

Squirrels don't carry rabies OR diseases.
The dog will be fine.

The squirrel won't.
Take her to the vet squirrels carry a lot of disease that can get passed on to dogs!
what difference would it make whether the dog is purebred or a mutt. (what a ridiculous answer)

The dog has eaten a dead animal. I would call the vet's, and make an appointment. I am not one to jump on the ';get to the vet right away'; train, but, in this instance, you do not know what bacteria, disease, your dog has come into contact with.

Call your vet, explain the situation and your financial situation, normally they will make an exception and you could pay by payment plan.

Things will probably be okay, if your dog has had all vaccinations, but I would call just to be sure.
I think the biggest problem could be worms. I used to have a cat that got worms every year from all the little furry creatures he consumed during the day. However, he ate rats and mice. Baby squirrels probably don't have much that a dog could catch.

Apart from that, not much to worry about in my untrained opinion.

If he starts climbing trees and eating nuts, he should get help though.
take her to the vet just in case of rabbies
