I'm not sure but I believe it is against the law in Kansas to have a baby squirrel or any other wild animal. It is in most states. This is not only for the animal's protection but for yours' as well. Squirrels carry diseases and parasites that humans can get. They also have special feeding needs. A baby squirrel usually is not weaned until it is close to 3 months old and needs special formula. A lot of food that we eat can be deadly for a squirrel. Squirrels do not make good pets. They smell, needs lots of exercise, and are not happy in a cage. Please contact your game warden or wildlife rehabber.What is the law on raising a baby squirrel in the state of Kansas?
From the Kansas Dept of Wildlife and Parks web site:

';Picking up young animals is against the law. Both the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment have regulations against such activity. Fines can be up to $1,000. State permits are required to legally possess most species of wild animals. For some species, federal permits are required and fines are more severe.';

';Q. I found a baby squirrel. What should I do?

A. Put the squirrel in a small box at the base of the nearest tree. The adult squirrel will retrieve the baby if it is left alone';

Call a veterinarian and ask for the number of the wildlife rescuers in your area. They can tell you what to do.
