My cat just came to my door with a baby squirrel! it doesnt seem to have injuries, it is about 4inches long not including its tail. how do i keep this little guy alive??!! does he still need his mothers milk? or maybe kitten formula%26gt;? or could he eat nuts and dry food now? i need to know soon,please help asap.THANKS SO MUCHBABY Squirrel i saved.. A young Squirrel can be successfully be brought up on infant formula baby milk
although Cimicat cat substitute milk is slightly better
do not contact an animal rescue society
as squirrels are classed as vermin
and it would be destroyed

are his eyes open? you need kitten formula. you can try a pet nurser, but i have had better luck with a 3 cc syringe. Keep the little one warm i usually make a nest with a fuzzy blanket piece, and keep a heating pad ON LOW underneath whatever you have him in. Depending on how old you think he is, you may want try and feed him every 2 hrs. As he gets older, go to 4 hours. After each meal, you will have to stimulate him to go to the bathroom. Use a cotton ball wetted down with warm water, and rub it on his belly and near the genital areas, this will make him go to the bathroom. you can find squirrel rehabilators on the web, or call your local vet. give it to the vets is the best thing to do so yes do that. do not feed him it might die if you feed him something he might not eat so take him to the vet or something where they can look after him. you cant keep him he belongs to wild.is where keeps him alive too hope it helps :)

Call animal control. Or a vet clinic thats deals with exotic animals. Animal control will probably come pick the squirrel up. I'd look information up online to see what the internet has to say about pet baby squirrels.

I mean I want them to live, but I work 40 +hours a week, plus have a 2, 10 %26amp; 17 yr old.3 baby squirrels barely 3 days old fell ot of their nest, how can I raise them or what should Ido?
Raising baby squirrels is tough..... I have done it before for a wildlife center.
The very best thing to do is to put them back in the nest using gloves (sometimes when a mother smells the scent of humans on their babies they will abandon them). Their mother knows how best to take care of them.
If that is not possible then the next best thing to do is to have a wildlife center look after them or if you live in Canada, The Ministry of Natural Resources is the best people to call.
If that isn't possible and you need to look after them yourself for whatever reason then there are a few things that you need to be aware of.
The first is that they need to be fed every couple hours. You will not be able to go to work all day without being able to come home to feed them at lunch time and you will need to feed them in the middle of the night or at least very late at night (1 - 2 am) for the first couple weeks.
The second is that they will need to be fed with a syringe for a few weeks and there is a special way to do this. They need to be fed in an upright position and needs to be done very slowly and carefully because if you aren't careful then they will accidentally inhale the liquids and it gets in their lungs and they develope pneumonia like symptoms and will die. Never feed them cow's milk. Feed either powdered or liquid ESBILAC (puppy milk replacer).
Gently stroke genital area with a tissue to stimulate urination and defecation at each feeding. Stroking is not usually necessary after eyes are opened.
The less contact they have with humans the better chance they have to be set free and survive when they get older. So don't play with them or treat them like pets. Feed them and then put them back in their cage.
You need to build them both a large wire cage and a wooden house. The wire cage should be about 5 feet high by 4 feet long by 3 feet deep. It will need to be kept away from the prying eyes of pets , small kids, etc. or they will stress out and die. The best design for a wooden house should have two rooms with an opening between each, a back door opening and a front door opening (front door would be in the floor of the first room) and a removable lid. It is built this way so that it can later be placed in a tree and so that predators can't get at them and they can escape out the back door if they need to.
Once they start to eat solid foods it is very important to only feed them peanuts and other nuts as a treat not as a meal. Too many of these is actually not healthy for them (too much fat in them).

And you'd have to call somebody or google some forumns to get some more expirieced people. You'd have to feed them regularly too (altough what you feed them I don't really know altough it's probably some milk you'd get from the vet which is what you do for rabbits...but honestly sorry but I'm not too up to date on squirrels, so your 17 year old would probably have to help out (good luck with that ;)

Then off to the pet store to get Esbilac formula. Feed every few hours. Have to stimulate after each feeding by rubbing private area with a cotton ball. Make sure it goes potty. If baby is dehydrated it will be very red looking in color and cold. Warm up and can give some pedilyte non flavored or some gatorade. Very little at a time. They have baby animal bottles at pet store also. Use the long nipple one. Do not over feed. But asap get to rehabber who will evaluate and raise baby until ready for release into the wild. When they wean from formula give rodent chow, monkey chow and natural diet. Also need things to gnaw on to keep teeth from over growth. Good luck. Its probably between 1-2 weeks old. Why don't anybody ever seen baby squirrels with the adult squirrels?
I did last year, it was amazing!!!
there was a tree lined street, and i sat on a low wall underneath this tree to have my lunch and i couldn't believe it, mum squirrel with her baby!!!
I sat very still, they were running around on the grass, looked like they were playing.
Then the baby jumped off the low wall and onto the pavement and went underneath a parked van. mum got really anxious, until he ran back out to her, then he couldn't get back up onto the wall, took several attempts. they were about 4 foot away from me!!
After a while they went back up to the nest, but it took the baby a few attempts again to get up there!

Babies are safely hidden away in the nest - I know because a family of squirrels discovered the warmth and safety of my attic. We listened to the squeeks of the little ones overhead for weeks. Then they grew into noisier, playful kids! I always thought squirrels were cute until then. Luckily with tree pruning and removals, we have been free of them this year.
