i recently found a baby squirrel. I'm estimating it to be about 2 weeks old. It is pink but is growing fuzz on its head, tail, and a little bit on its back. ive been taking care of it for the past four days. Keeping it warm with a hot water bottle and feeding it 2% partly skimmed milk. I did some research and found that it needs more fat in its milk and something more natural. So i started feeding it 3.25% homogenized whole milk. It only has two ingredients : milk and vitamin D3. I was just wondering if this milk is best for it? I read that kitten and puppy formula is really bad for squirrels. And do you have to give it a vitamin E supplement? Cuzz i dont have money for that.Feeding A Baby Squirrel Cow Milk!?
please take it to a wildlife rehabilitator! they know the exact way to care for your little one and it won't cost you anything. (they are nonprofit so a donation would be appreciated but not necessary) the other thing is it's illegal to raise a wild animal. I volunteer for a center and see this exact scenario all the time and the animal is who pays. If they get wrong formula they either die from malnutrition and if they don't they end up with bad bones and will die young. please take him to someone who knows what they are doing :o)Feeding A Baby Squirrel Cow Milk!?
Do NOT take it to a wildlife rehab center. it is better off in your care. They are always overwhelmed with wild animals. Keep the baby warm always. (95 degrees) use a heating pad on low. and cover with a blanket. Feed her/him GERBER baby cereal (with an eye dropper). Just mix it with warm water. Every two hours during the day, and every four hours at night. After each feeding use a wet warm cotton ball to stimulate it to pee. Mother squirrel would do this. Once baby is fed put back in cage on heating pad until next feeding. It should not open its eyes until 4-5 weeks of age.
